More details

I just found some more details about the upcoming U2 CD that’s coming out in March. As I mentioned, there are several different versions that will be coming out. One is just a regular CD. There is a digi-pack, which is a CD in a cardboard container, a 36-page book, a poster and a copy of an Anton Corbijn film featuring some of their music. There will be a two-disc vinyl release. The fourth version will be a magazine edition that comes with the CD in a magazine-style book and a downloadable version of the Anton Corbijn film. And the last version is a box set with the CD, a 60 page hardcover book, two posters, and a DVD copy of the Anton Corbijn film. It will certainly be an interesting new release. Which one will you buy??

There’s been no confirmation on any tour just yet, but one has to believe that it is coming. U2, the solid live performers they are, will definitely want to see first-hand how well fans take to their new songs. They will undoubtedly be quite anxious to get back on the road, after all that time spent in the studio, to do what they love best. Keep up to date with their tour dates and click here to get your U2 tickets.

New Album

When U2’s new album comes out, you should be ready to spend some money. Apparently it’s coming out in 5 versions, the most expensive of which will cost $96, with a DVD and posters. I don’t know if I can spend that much, but I probably will. I’m conflicted, but I really have to have the U2 stuff whenever I can get it!

It’s been about 5 years, but Bono and the boys have finally put the finishing touches on their latest studio album “No Line on the Horizon.” Scheduled to be released on March 2nd 2009, No Line on the Horizon was recorded in several different studios. From Morocco to London to their own personal studio in Dublin, the new album should have quite a lot of locational inspiration. This will be the groups’ 12th studio album.

Are you kidding me?

I guess it’s called Pro Bono work for a reason: Bono has won another award. This one is the Nobel “Man of Peace” prize. It is awarded to worthy people who are nominated by Nobel laureates. The worthy people have contributed something for humanitarian causes, and usually it seems to be given to celebrities, because last year it was given to George Clooney and Don Cheadle. Those two spoke out against violence in Darfur. Bono has done much to help alleviate the hunger and poverty in Africa, though he has’t completely succeeded yet. The point isn’t that he has completely solved anything, but that he has heightened awareness, or “raised people’s consciousness” as we used to say in the 60s. Well he deserves it! Enjoy! And, hey, you don’t even have to meet the king of Sweden for this one, just the mayor of Paris, huzzah!

U2, in Video Form

U2 doesn’t really take a break. It’s just levels of greatness. And, their level never drops beneath mega-awesome on the greatness meter. As I (the worthless non U2 band  member that I am) type, Bono, Edge, and the boys are hard at work on a brand new music video for a brand new song. The video is being directed by Alex Courtes, who has made them swear to secrecy on the content of the video. Learn it all at U2.com.

Producer

Kanye West is reporting that Will.I.Am is producing the next U2 album. A lot of people don’t actually believe that that’s the case, but on West’s own blog, he claimed, in all caps, that the producer selection was all settled and ready to go. So now we’re left to wonder either why he would lie or why Will.I.Am would be producing for U2. Don’t they have their own producers and producing setup?  I’m actually rather confused. Well, we’ll have to wait and see if this pans out to be true, but it will be fun to know.

U2 has joined forces with The Killers, Coldplay, Jay-Z and John Legend and recorded songs for the digital music magazine Red Wire. The magazine will be launched on World AIDS day and is dedicated to helping to eliminate AIDS in Africa. “I Believe in Father Christmas” is the track performed by U2.

Rob Partridge, 60

Rob Partridge, who was the British publicist for U2, Bob Marley and other bands passed away this past week of cancer.  He was 60 years old. He has been a big name in the publicist world since 1978, when he helped publicize a big concert in England. He was born in Devon, in southern England, in 1948. Bono paid tribute with the following words: “Rob Partridge was the first person in the British music industry to sing our praises. He not only had an eye for upcoming talent, he was a nurturer … a person who would educate you about the kind of obstacles you were going to meet and how to get over them … a rare human being.”  Clearly he will be missed!
